Translation

There are some words missing. Maybe you entered the term incorrectly. If InterTran cannot find the requested term it displays the closest one in its dictionary. InterTran can translate only those translations that it has in its dictionary (this includes the personal dictionary of user that requested the translation).

If you like you can add your own words. For that just click on the AddWord icon.
How to translate the word to some language if there is no translation for the word in required dictionary? If you know any other language you can try to translate that word from another language to required one. InterTran uses a different dictionary for every language pair. Some languages, for example, have more terms than others.
InterTran translated another term, not the one that I requested If InterTran is unable to find appropriate translation for just one word it will display the closest match. This way you can find word even if you misspelled it.
I haven't found the translation for the word I was looking for. There are other ones, but not the one I would like to see. Some terms have multiple forms; InterTran (tm) does not have all forms entered in the source language but only the ones that occur most frequently. Our teams of linguists and translators are adding new forms continuously.

If you like you can add your own words. For that just click on the AddWord icon.
Term is correctly translated in other foreign languages, but not in the one that I would need Please see the question: "There are some words missing."
The term is incorrectly translated. We have many dictionaries with many entries. It is possible that few entries have been incorrectly entered. You can correct them by creating the new user account, logging in as one and adding the term correctly. We are checking the translations regularly and we try to correct all mistakes.
The term is misspelled. Please see the question: "The term is incorrectly translated"
Translation is not as good as I expected. InterTran for is using for translation two engines: WordTran and NeuroTran. WordTran is translating word for word and phrase for phrase. NeuroTran is our grammar aware translation software. For now the NeuroTran is available only for some languages and you must have access to this translation engine. Please contact us at Sales@tranexp.comif you like more information how to enable this translation engine.

Results of Machine translation are still not as good as on of professional human translator. If you need better translation you should consider buying our translation software Word Translator (tm) or contact us for Professional human translation .
During the translation I see some English words as result and I am not using English. For some language pairs we are using English as a 'helping language'. It is possible that there are words that do not have their translations in that dictionary pair. In those cases we translate text into English. This way some people can understand text better than if we haven't translated that part of the text at all.
How can I enhance the translation quality? You can either add your own words to your user dictionary or contact us to access the NeuroTran dictionary.

Dictionaries

The dictionary I would like to use is not available. We are constantly working on existing dictionaries and are also planning the new ones. Maybe you can help us offer them by either:

  • Paying for such a development
  • If you don't have the money to help us make the dictionaries in question, we can tell you what you need to do.
If you are willing to help out please send an e-mail to: Intertran1@tranexp.com.
Are InterTran dictionaries compatible with Word Translator and NeuroTran dictionaries? InterTran dictionaries are 100% compatible with the dictionaries used by Word Translator and NeuroTran and vice versa.

If you choose to buy or you have already bought Word Translator or NeuroTran you can also get your personal dictionary that you created using InterTran for use with Word Translator and NeuroTran. Also, if you wish, we can save your Word Translator or NeuroTran dictionary as your personal dictionary that you can use to when translating with InterTran .
Do you update and change the dictionaries? Dictionaries are checked and new terms are added regularly. You are always using the best dictionary currently available for desired language.
How does the changing or adding new terms reflect on other users? All changes that you make can be seen only by yourself. The use of advanced options does not reflect on other users in any way. You can freely change existing terms or add new translations.

Appearance

What are those little arrows near words (visible only in Netscape 4.x or higher and MS IE 3.x and higher) You can see alternative translation of word, as well as it's original when you place the cursor over them.

Place the cursor over the arrow and wait a few seconds (waiting time depends on your Browser).
Can I see other translation when I'm translating URL (available only in Netscape 4.x or higher and MS IE 3.x and higher) Please see the question: "What are those little arrows near words"
How to make InterTran display all messages in my language? InterTran can be customised to display all the messages in your own language. First time you log in InterTran will try to automatically detect your language and to configure itself properly. You can change this selection using the "Configure" icon.

If the InterTran interface is not translated into your own language then you can select from the other available.
In what languages can InterTran display messages? This depends only of the InterTran administrator of the site on which the InterTran resides. InterTran is shipped with all messages in English language, but its interface can be completely and easily translated into any language.
Characters are incorrectly displayed. InterTran defines the code page of the page it translates the text to. That way you should be able to see all the characters of resulting text. You must also have installed appropriate font in order to be able to see them.

If the code page of the result page is different than the input one, then it is possible that the input characters are not visible (for example, if you are translating the Japanese text into Croatian you will not be able to see the Japanese characters. We are unable to solve this problem and it is the problem with current web standards.
I do not have an appropriate font to display text. You should contact your administrator and ask him to install the required fonts or you can browse the web and find the appropriate ones.

You should be able to find the fonts on the official web pages of your operating system.

Foreign characters

What does Shift JIS Japanese mean? JIS = Japanese Industry Standard
Shift = shifted version of the JIS standard = something Microsoft uses and is used on the web
I cannot translate Japanese text. The source Japanese text must be in the Shift-JIS format. If it is not in this format our software cannot translate it. Shift-JIS is the Microsoft standard for Japanese characters.
Can I translate Romaji script? Our Japanese->English translator will translate Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji leaving Romaji untouched. Most, if not all, Japanese texts are in only Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji whereas transliterated text for the purpose of English speakers written in Romaji is not really used in Japanese texts.

We will consider adding translation of Romaji in the future depending on the demand.
How can I view foreign characters (e.g. Japanese, Russian, etc.)? In order to view native Japanese fonts in InterTran, you need to have special translation tables installed in your system. These tables are automatically installed when you install Japanese Language Support from Apple.

Depending on the operating system you are using:

  • Windows (we recommend that you install MS IE 5 ):
    • If you are not using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x you can go to: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and look for: Japanese Language Support. There you can download the appropriate fonts that can be used in Windows. This site requires MS IE 4.x or higher (sorry!).
    • If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x you can install Japanese Language Support and you can even include a small program that will allow you to enter Japanese characters (this program is included in the Japanese versions of Windows).
  • Macintosh and Macintosh Clones: Apple Computer sells the Japanese Language Kit: http://www.apple.com/macos/multilingual/languagekits.html , which includes Japanese fonts.

Limits

Does InterTran support a proxy? InterTran software has built in support for proxies. InterTran is currently installed on computer that does not require a proxy.
Does InterTran support JAVA and JavaScript? InterTran (tm) does not change parts of HTML code that are written in JavaScript or JAVA. InterTran (tm) has no problems with most JAVA and JavaScript programs.

If JavaScript modifies the URL link it is possible for an error to occur because InterTran (tm) is also modifying links.
I use XYZ operating system. Is there an InterTran version for my system? InterTran is completely independent of any operating system that you use. All you need for it to use is a web browser.

If you would like to purchase the InterTran server, please contact us at Internet@tranexp.com in order to receive more information about operating systems supported by InterTran server version.
I use Web TV, can I use InterTran? InterTran does not require saving to the hard or floppy disk and it can be used for translating pages if you are using Web TV.
If you experience any problems regarding the InterTran using the Web TV, please contact us at: Intertran1@tranexp.com so that we can help you solve the problem.
I don't use Netscape or Microsoft Internet explorer, will I be able to use the InterTran? You should be able to use InterTran using any browser that is HTML 3.2 compliant. You should check your browser software manual in order to make sure it does.
Can you please tell me the limitations of the InterTran software?
  • InterTran returns more target text than what is contained the source text. This can confuse some older browsers. New ones will not have any problems.
  • InterTran does not support fully the translation of JavaScript. It is possible that some JavaScripts will not translate correctly (especially if the JavaScript modifies the URL). As a result you can end up on a non-existing page.
  • The speed of translation is equal to the size of the source text. Translation is much faster on smaller source texts.
  • When translating web pages, its translation may be slower if the either the connection between your computer with InterTran is slow or if the connection between InterTran and the source text is slow.
  • InterTran can only translate words and sentences that are in its dictionary. This includes those translations that are added by the user from the user created personal dictionary.
  • The resulting translation is not always the best possible translation. This is always the problem with machine translation. The translation may require some human assistance in the form of post editing before the translation can be used in a business setting. Our company provides such a post editing service.
